Terms of Service

Terms of Service

These Terms of Service govern the use of services provided by Scruffy City Movers (“we,” “our,” “us”). By scheduling, purchasing, or using any of our moving, packing, or labor-related services, you (“the client,” “customer,” “you”) agree to the following terms. Please review this document thoroughly before confirming a service.

1. Service Overview

Scruffy City Movers provides residential moving, long-distance relocation, packing, labor-only assistance, furniture assembly, specialty moving, piano moving, and related services in Knoxville and surrounding areas. All services are performed by trained personnel using industry-standard equipment and protective materials.

2. Scheduling and Booking

2.1 Appointment Confirmation

A move is not considered scheduled until the booking is confirmed and all required details are provided. Incomplete information may delay scheduling.

2.2 Start Times

Arrival windows may vary due to traffic, weather, or unforeseen delays. We make every reasonable effort to begin on time.

2.3 Service Modifications

Any changes to the move date, time, service type, or inventory must be communicated in advance. Additional fees may apply if modifications impact labor requirements, duration, or equipment needs.

3. Customer Responsibilities

3.1 Accurate Information

You agree to provide accurate details regarding your inventory, home layout, access conditions, and any special handling needs. Incorrect information may result in additional charges or service limitations.

3.2 Safe Environment

Clients must ensure safe working conditions, clear pathways, adequate lighting, and access to all required areas. Hazards must be disclosed before the move begins.

3.3 Packing Requirements

Items packed by the customer must be secured properly. We are not responsible for damage to items packed by the client unless explicitly contracted for professional packing.

3.4 Valuables and Personal Items

Clients are responsible for removing and transporting personal valuables such as cash, jewelry, firearms, medications, confidential documents, electronics, and irreplaceable items.

4. Service Limitations

4.1 Hazardous Materials

We do not move items considered hazardous, flammable, explosive, or prohibited by law. Examples include chemicals, fuels, aerosols, firearms, and perishable goods.

4.2 Structural and Access Restrictions

If stairways, hallways, elevators, or tight areas prevent safe movement of a large item, we may decline to move it to avoid property damage.

4.3 Weather Limitations

During severe weather conditions, service may be delayed or adjusted for safety.

5. Payments and Fees

5.1 Rate Structure

Rates vary based on service type, labor requirements, distance, complexity, and materials used. Long-distance moves may require deposits.

5.2 Payment Timing

Payment is due upon completion of services unless otherwise stated. Accepted payment methods will be provided during booking.

5.3 Additional Fees

Extra charges may apply for the following:

  • Oversized or extremely heavy items
  • Specialty handling
  • Long carry distances
  • Stair or elevator fees
  • Disassembly or reassembly requiring additional labor
  • Extended move duration
  • Last-minute service changes

5.4 Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made with insufficient notice may incur fees. Notice requirements vary based on service type, season, and crew availability.

6. Damage and Liability

6.1 Item Condition

Scruffy City Movers are not responsible for damages to items that were already worn, weakened, structurally compromised, or improperly assembled before the move.

6.2 Packed-by-Owner Items

Scruffy City Movers do not cover items packed by the customer for damage unless the damage was caused directly by mishandling during transport or loading.

6.3 Property Protection

While we take extensive measures to protect walls, floors, and entryways, normal wear or minor surface marks may occur. We are not liable for damage resulting from inadequate access, pre-existing structural issues, or unsafe conditions.

6.4 Electronics and Internal Components

We are not responsible for internal mechanical or electronic failures of appliances, TVs, computers, or instruments unless damage is clearly caused by external impact.

6.5 High-Value Items

Clients must disclose specialty items, antiques, fragile collections, or valuable pieces in advance. Failure to disclose may void coverage for those items.

7. Limitations of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Scruffy City Movers is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages, including loss of income, emotional distress, or delays caused by events outside our control.
Our total liability for any claim is limited to the total amount paid for the service in question.

8. Long Distance Move Requirements

8.1 Inventory Verification

For long-distance moves, inventory lists must be accurate. Additional or undisclosed items may result in revised pricing.

8.2 Delivery Windows

While we aim for timely delivery, arrival times may vary due to traffic, weather, road closures, or unforeseen circumstances.

9. Labor Only Services

For labor-only moves:

We are not responsible for damage to trucks, containers, or equipment not owned by Scruffy City Movers.
We cannot guarantee the safety of items inside rental trucks, PODs, or storage units once our team has left the job site.

10. Specialty Items and Piano Moving

Specialty items, including pianos, safes, antiques, artwork, and oversized furniture, require advance notice. Additional fees, equipment, or labor may apply based on complexity and weight.

11. Privacy and Data Use

We collect personal information such as your name, contact information, addresses, and service details for scheduling and communication. We do not sell or share customer information with third parties except as required for operational needs or legal compliance.

12. Right to Refuse Service

Scruffy City Movers reserves the right to refuse or discontinue service if:

  • Conditions are unsafe.
  • The environment poses risk to the crew or property.
  • The customer engages in aggressive or inappropriate behavior.
  • Items violate policy or legal requirements.

13. Governing Law

The laws of the State of Tennessee govern these Terms of Service. Any disputes shall be resolved under Tennessee jurisdiction.
